Review: RC Micro Drone 2.0, Because Everything Is Better With a HD Camera Attached

Micro Drone 2.0

Micro Drone 2.0

You got to love it, just 5 days into 2014 and we are already talking about a new RC Drone!  Sure, we reviewed the Micro Drone from Extreme Fliers in 2013, but that is old news now.  The original Micro Drone Quadcopter was great, but it lacked eyes and ears.  Now the new Micro Drone 2.0 adds an HD 720P Camera to the R/C Drone, making it the smallest quadcopter that has a video camera.

Enough words, the Micro Drone 2.0 has to be seen to be appreciated.  Please take a look at our video review of the Micro Drone 2.0 from Extreme Fliers –

Now With Video Of Your Best Flips

As the video shows, the Micro Drone 2.0 continues to be a very fun and relatively easy to fly R/C quadcopter.  We found the handling very similar to the Micro Drone from last year and that is a good thing.  The drone is small, fast and highly maneuverable.  Kids are going to love being able to press a button and make the drone do flips.

Of course the big addition to the Micro Drone 2.0 is the camera module.  The module is an add-on, and cost about $30 additional (on top of the $99 Micro Drone 2.0 price).  My guess is, the kids will want the camera add-on.  You get a 720P camera that can take both video and photos.  Simply press the function button on the remote and your best stunts, flips and crashes can be saved forever!

A Lot Of Tech Crammed Into a Tiny Toy

Don’t let the small size of the Micro Drone 2.0 fool you, it is overflowing with cool technology.  Here are the key features –

  • USB rechargeable Li-Po battery (300 mA/h Li-Po)
  • Range up to 400 feet (2.4GHZ Transmitter)
  • Weighs just over an ounce
  • Pre-programmed algorithm to perform 360-degree flips
  • Includes 4 spare blades and a mini screwdriver for attaching the camera
  • 6 Axis Gyro stability allows for stable flights
  • Robust Metal Structure
  • High Speed 29,000 RPM motors

Parents, Do Let Your Children Grow Up To Be Drone Pilots

I guess you could encourage the kids to read, do their homework, study and pay attention in school…but where is that going to get them?  It is clear the future will be run by drones.  Amazon will deliver packages by Drones and it seems like only a matter of time before all parenting is done by Drones.  We already have Helicopter Parenting, so why not Drone Parenting :)   If you want your kids to have a real skill that will serve them well in 5-10 years, then clearly they should be learning to fly a Drone…and speak Chinese.

Micro Drone 2.0, A Nice Improvement To A Little Drone

Overall, we loved the Micro Drone 2.0 from Extreme Fliers.  The downside?  You only get about 8 minutes of fly time before you need to recharge (about 40-60 minutes).  If you are running the camera, the fly time goes down to about 5 minutes.  If you can get past that, the Micro Drone 2.0 is fun to fly and the HD camera works well.

Hmm, I wonder what the Micro Drone 3.0 will have?  I’m hoping for a grappling hook!
