Review: Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2×4, Darts So Nice They Fire Twice

Review of Nerf Roughcut 2x4 Elite Blaster

Review of Nerf Roughcut 2x4 Elite Blaster

Nerf really blew a great naming opportunity.  The above blaster is the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2×4.  A bit of mouthful, no?  The claim to fame on this blaster is that you can fire two darts at once.  Let’s see, a dart firing twice, hmm, everyone knows the famous line “New York, New York – A Town So Nice They Named it Twice“, so if I was running Nerf, the above gun would simply be the Nerf Blaster Blaster.  Catchy, no?

Luckily We Review Products Better Than We Name Them

Perhaps we should leave naming of toys to the experts and do what we do best – play with and review toys!  The Nerf Elite Rough Cut 2×4 makes a number of claims such as being able to fire 75 feet and with a single pull of the trigger unleash two darts at once.  All sounds good on the box and press release, but we knew we needed to test the Nerf Rough Cut 2×4 out in the real world…

Please Watch Our Video Review of the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2×4 -

The Rough Cut Is Fun, But Also a Little Rough Around the Edges

On paper the Nerf Rough Cut 2×4 Sounds Pretty Incredible –

“Slam into battle with the double-barreled domination of the ROUGH CUT 2X4 blaster! This sleek blaster lets you launch 2 Elite Darts at once at targets up to 75 feet away, and the pump-action design lets you pump repeatedly to unleash a steady double stream of darts! Launch up to 8 Elite Darts without reloading! As with most N-STRIKE blasters, the Tactical Rail lets you add most N-STRIKE Tactical Rail accessories (sold separately) for more battle capability. Double your blasting with the ROUGH CUT 2X4 blaster and get ready to dominate with both barrels!”

As the video shows, the Rough Cut is clearly fun and powerful, but it does fall short in some areas.  In our testing, we were able to reach 72 Feet with one dart, a very impressive distance, but not the 75 Feet advertised.  In testing, most darts went between 50 – 60 feet, with a few reaching further.

The ability to squeeze the trigger halfway for a single fire and all the way for a double fire was impressive.  Unfortunately, the blaster does misfire from time to time and we had some issues with the darts falling out as the kids were playing with them.

Conclusion:  The Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2×4 Is A Fun New Way to Blast Your Friends

While kids will have a hard time reaching the claimed 75 Feet with the Rough Cut 2×4, they probably will not care much as it is still a very fun blaster.  We wished the bullets stayed in the blaster a little tighter, but that is a minor point.  As a Dad I absolutely love one thing this blaster does NOT have – batteries!  No batteries to replace on the Rough Cut, it all works by pumping.

If you have Nerf fans in your house, the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2×4 will be a welcomed addition to their arsenal.
