Mosquito Magnet Commander Review: Let The Mosquito Wars Begin

Mosquito Magnet Commander Central

I hate mosquitoes and from their great desire to suck my blood, I don’t believe they think highly of me either.  In my attempt to rid the planet of mosquitoes I wrote this open letter to them nearly two years ago.  I kindly asked them to vacate the planet, but just step in my backyard at dusk and it is clear they have ignored my requests.  Clearly, it is time for plan B in my War on Mosquitoes.

Bring In The Mosquito Magnet Commander AKA WMDM (Weapon of Mass Destruction of Mosquitoes)

For years I have had The Mosquito Magnet from Woodstream on my radar.  The Mosquito Magnet uses propane and an attractant to create the smell of our breath and skin.  Once the mosquitoes get near the Mosquito Magnet they get sucked into the trap and die.  All sounded good, but the need to run an AC power cable across my lawn was always a deal breaker.

Now the new Mosquito Magnet Commander Central runs on a battery, that lasts all season on one charge!  In addition, it uses WiFi to provide status updates direct to an app on your phone.  Clearly this Mosquito Magnet claimed to have the firepower and communications that are necessary to wage a successful war, all that was left to do was some field testing.

The Mosquito Magnet Does Not Look Like Me, But It Must Smell Like Me

As the video shows, we are still in the early testing phase.  We are going to let the Mosquito Magnet run for 3-4 weeks and then report back with the results.  However, in just 24 hours we already saw a large amount of mosquitoes trapped…and I can’t tell you how happy that made me!

How does the Mosquito Magnet, which even Mr Magoo could not confuse for a human, draw in so many mosquitoes?  It is all about our smells…

“Our product is so inventive and so amazingly unique that we have more than 15 patents on our Mosquito Magnet® technologies!

1.  Lures

The Mosquito Magnet® operates 24/7 by releasing a continuous stream of carbon dioxide (CO2) and scientifically proven attractant to draw mosquitoes to the trap.

2.  Captures

With our patented Counterflow™ Technology, mosquitoes are vacuumed into a net where they dehydrate and die.

3. Controls

The Mosquito Magnet® is scientifically proven to disrupt mosquito breeding cycles, virtually eliminating the nuisance and danger of mosquitoes in your yard all season long.”

Is There Any Science Behind The Mosquito Magnet?

I think there may be more science on the Mosquito Magnet than there is on half the prescriptions we take!  The Mosquito Magnet has 15 patents on their technology and you can read all about their field testing here.  More into watching than reading?  Take a look at this video that goes over the science behind the Mosquito Magnet –

So Far, Elimination Of Mosquitoes Awesome, Communication Still A Work In Progress

It has been just a few days since we setup the Mosquito Magnet Commander, but we are already seeing more and more mosquitoes in the trap and less and less in our backyard!  The Commander should be able to hook up to your wireless router and broadcast updates to your phone or computer.  We have not been able to get this to work yet, but we will contact support and see what we can do to get the wireless functionality working.

As we said, this is just Part 1 of our review, check back in a few weeks and we will have our complete review of the Mosquito Magnet Commander.

UPDATE – PART 2 Of The Mosquito Magnet

Quick update to say we have been using the Mosquito Magnet for weeks and all is working great now.  Please watch Part 2 of our review –

In part 2 we will go over proper placement, monthly cost to keep the Mosquito Magnet running and of course the long term ability to control the mosquitoes in your backyard.
