Toy of The Year Award 2013

Nothing like getting the International Toy Fair 2013 started with a big gala award ceremony! Forget the Oscars, the real action happens on Saturday night, 2/9/13 when the 2013 Toy of the Year (TOTY) Award Ceremony is held and the top toys are announced.  The votes are in and we will soon know what were the best toys of 2012 in a number of different categories.

How The Toy of The Year (TOTY) 2013 Award Process Works

If you are going to give out something as important as Toy Awards, you are going to need some rules…

All 2013 TOTY nominated products must have been:

(1) available at retail in the United States on or before November 19th, 2012, and
(2) introduced to the marketplace within the last two years. (NOTE: This can include a new version of an older product line, as long as the “new” product or reiteration has been introduced within the last two years

In total there were 12 categories plus the much coveted Toy of The Year Award.

How Are The Winning Toys Picked?

Finalist in each category were selected by nomination committees and voting for the TOTY 2013 was launched on November 19th and ran until January 13th, 2013.  Ballots were weighted as follows – consumers (20%), journalists and bloggers (20%), mass and specialty retailers (30% combined), and members of the Toy Industry Association (30%).

BIG WHEEL? I didn’t know that the “retro” look in trikes was in. Skylanders are awesome. Surprised about TMNT, of all the toys nominated, TMNT are the only ones not on my son’s “radar”, I guess SKylanders saved me from being the complete “out of touch with the times” Mom! LOL ;)

I love to give the cloud b Tranquil Turtle as a baby shower gift and a Twilight Turtle for an older sibling gift at the same time; great additions to the nursery and makes the soon to be older sibling feel included. Perfect gifts and more useful than the traditional stuffed animal.
