Review: Astrojax, The Most Fun You Can Have With 3 Balls on a String

Astrojax Toy

Astrojax Toy

When we review a new RC helicopter, you can tell how cool it is just by looking at the photo at the top of the post.  Now take a look at the photo at the top of this post.  Three balls on a string…doesn’t really ooze with fun and coolness.  Yet, don’t judge a toy by its photo, the Astrojax is one addictively fun toy.

Batteries??  We Don’t Need No Stinking Batteries

The Astrojax could not be more low tech.  No batteries, no screens, no power, not even an on and off switch.  The Astrojax is an orbiting skill toy, a free-dimensional swinging ball toy.  What does that mean?  I’m not sure.  Let’s see, how about this from the Astrojax site –

Astrojax is a fascinating toy focused on rhythm and your personal style. It combines aspects of yo-yo, juggling, and poi, but focuses on exploration. Astrojax is three balls on a string, with one ball at each end and a sliding center ball. The magic lies in the sliding centrally-weighted middle ball.”

Still not getting it?  Probably the best way to understand what the Astrojax is, is to see it in action.

Let’s take a look at the Astrojax MX Sport in action in our video review -

We Apologize For Our Incredible Lack of Astrojax Skills

When we first got the Astrojax MX Sport and started doing some tricks, we thought we were pretty cool.  Then we went to the Astrojax Learning center and realized just how pathetic our skills were.  Take a look at the Astrojax Training Center and you will see what is possible with the Astrojax.  Still, even without knowing how to do 1% of  what these guys can do, we still had a blast playing with the Astrojax.

The Astrojax is Strangely Addictive For Kids and Adults

The worst thing about the Astrojax is it is so hard to describe why we found it so addictive.    In an office filled with RC toys and endless gadgets, what is it about three balls on a string that has us all playing with the Astrojax?  At home, the kids love to pick it up and just swing it around.  Sometimes they are doing real moves, other times just having fun.  There is something about the rhythm and movement of the Astrojax that makes you want to keep doing it.

The other thing that makes the Astrojax such an accessible toy is its simple nature.  You are never waiting for the Astrojax to charge or looking for another part that goes with the Astrojax.  Pick up the Astrojax, start playing, anytime and anywhere.  This also happens to make Astrojax a wonderful travel toy.  Throw it in the car, takes up basically no room and kids and adults can have fun with it on the trip.

Like Your Balls A Little More Firm…

Get your mind out of the gutter, we are talking Astrojax balls of course.  We reviewed the Astrojax MX Sport, which has soft balls – great for kids and beginners.  They do make a number of different Astrojax products, with different weights and with balls made out of harder material for different tricks.  You can also get Astrojax in a number of different and cool looks and styles via the USAstrojax site.

Conclusion: Stop Playing Angry Birds and Start Playing Astrojax

From watching the videos of the Astrojax experts, it looks like you could train and do some incredible tricks with the Astrojax.  My guess is our audience is probably not that hard core.  Still, for Moms, Dads, Kids, Grandparents – anyone really – the Astrojax is a simple way to have some fun and take a break from whatever is stressing you out. Put down the Angry Birds, turn off the TV, wake the cat and pick up a Astrojax and have a blast playing with the kids (and tormenting the cat).  Now if you will excuse me, I need to go work on my Echo Switch juggling trick.
