I bought a new iPad 2 and what did I need then? Accessories, of course. Technology is nothing without accessories. Cell phones need covers, and an iPad is no different. While any cover will offer some protection of the iPad, I wanted a cover that would compliment the clean design of the iPad.
Enter Story Leather, Proving Once Again That Everything Looks Better In Leather
Story Leather is a company that specializes in making hand made leather cases for high tech gadgets. Here is the blurb from their website –
“StoryLeather was founded in 2007 by a group of passionate, young leather enthusiasts. Seeing the exorbitant prices that high-end luxury leatherware companies charged for a limited selection, the founders decided to embark on a journey to create a new type of fashion house that mainly focused on a personalized self-style, selection and customization. Today, we have carved a niche for ourselves in customizable leatherware for high tech gadgets. Due to overwhelming demand, we were able to venture into overseas markets where StoryLeather has gained great momentum.
We work with a highly trained, talented team of leather artisans who take pride in their craftsmanship. Each leather piece is individually dyed, cut and hand sewn to produce the end product. Every piece goes through a vigorous quality control inspection before delivery.”
Putting Story Leather To Some Real World Family Testing
To test out the Story Leather iPad cases, I received two models – The Tory Napa Apple iPad2 Genuine Leather Folio Case (Turquois) and the Montebello Folio Case for the Apple iPad2 in Genuine Leather (Coffee). According to the manufacturer, all leather cases are handmade by artisans using premium quality full-grain leather combined with the best stitch work for high quality. Certainly, from the moment you open the soft suede drawstring bag, you are overwhelmed with the smell of fine leather.
These cases are quite beautiful. The colors are rich and vibrant. Both cases includes slots for business cards and note paper on one side and the interior is lined with suede. The iPad slides securely into place and the slots for the controls and camera are all accurately placed. The cases also come with a magnetized latch which immediately shuts off your iPad when you flip it over.
Story Leather Cases Are Beautiful, But Can They Withstand Real World Abuse?
My daughter and I spent several weeks testing the case. It flew with us on planes, rode in cars, was handled with sticky fingers, and survived being shoved deep into backpacks. Countless hours were spent with it open and completely bent backwards as a movie was watched streaming on Netflix. Photos were taken with the camera. In short, it was given quite the crash test.
Happily, the case has done admirably. Fingerprints have not shown up on it. The stitching has remained firmly intact. No wear or fraying on the leather at any point has shown.
There are only two small downsides to this case. One is that it has been created for the business person on the go, not for the casual at home user. Therefore, there is no fixed mechanism to make the case stand up as there is for many other iPad cases. However, because the case is so sturdily made and the leather is not too slick, it easily stays erect when you try to get it to stand. The other downside is that the magnetic latch can sometimes inadvertently shut off your iPad if you accidentally flip it toward the tablet as you change its position. Since the iPad remembers where you last were, this is more an inconvenience than an issue.
Don’t Like the Design of The Case? Design Your Own Case at Story Leather
If you want a truly unique case, you can design your own leather case at Story Leather. Using their online application, you can customize a case to your exact needs. A custom case is going to take 30 days to be delivered, but that seems reasonable given the hand made nature of these cases. I did not try to design a custom case, so I can not speak to how the whole process works.
Conclusion: Story Leather Cases Succeed In Providing Beauty and Protection
The Napa Ipad 2 Case retails for $79.99, but is currently on sale for $49.99. The Montebello case retails for $79.99 and is on sale for $59.99. While there are certainly many iPad cases out there, the Story Leather cases are definitely the type to make an impression. If you use an iPad for work or travel, these cases stand out as being extremely attractive and durable. Better than that, they still are completely able to be used at home by your abusive children, who won’t appreciate the qualities of fine Italian leather, but they will like the feel of it in their hands. And who doesn’t want to raise their children to have good taste?
In short, Story Leather iPad 2 Folio Cases are a real treasure.
