Let’s be honest, being a parent is stressful. Sure, it is also incredible, wonderful, life changing and amazing – but trying to keep our kids healthy and safe can turn you gray before you even have a chance to go bald. Guess what? Turns out we have all been worrying about the wrong things!

Parents Found to be Detached From Reality When it Comes to Child Safety

According to a Mayo Clinic Study here are the top 5 things that parents worry about in terms of kids safety:

  1. Kidnapping
  2. School snipers
  3. Terrorists
  4. Dangerous strangers
  5. Drugs

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, here are top 5 things most likely to cause injury in children:

  1. Car accidents
  2. Homicide (usually at the hands of someone they know)
  3. Child abuse
  4. Suicide
  5. Drowning

Yikes – looks like we were a little off target with our worries.  But still, kidnapping – that one freaks me out.  Wait, what’s that?  Studies show I would need to leave my kid outside alone for 750,000 hours to guarantee they would be kidnapped?  Okay, now I am stressed that I don’t know anything about parenting, I think just went bald…
