Top Holiday Toys for 2011: The Outsider’s Gift Guide To The Best Toys

2011 Top Toys

2011 Top Toys. Top Holiday Toys for 2011

I know what you’re thinking – Do We Really Need Another Top Holiday Toys List? Ah, but this list is different, because we don’t know anything about the toy industry!  Introducing…

The Dad Does Outsider’s Gift Guide to The Top Toys of 2011

All those other best toy lists are based on things like understanding the toy industry, knowing how much money is being spent on marketing and actually having data on what toys will get top shelf space in the stores.   In other words, insiders know what toys will be popular this holiday season based on how the toy industry works.

You want to know our idea of inside knowledge here at Dad Does?  We are doing well if we get the inside track on when girl scout cookies will go on sale.  We are outsiders to the toy industry and their advertising plans, but we are Moms and Dads who have tested hundreds of toys in the real world and we know what our kids found fun! We can not tell you what toys will be most popular based on advertising, scarcity and media coverage –  but we can tell you what toys will be the most fun for your kids.

Keep Your Press Releases and Marketing Speak, We Just Play With Toys!

We use an extremely complicated algorithm to determine which toys kids will find most fun:

  • We get the toys
  • We have kids, Moms and Dads actually play with the toys
  • If the toy is incredibly fun, it makes this list

We’ll give you a moment to digest our complicated review process.  In all seriousness, you would be shocked at how many product review sites do reviews based on press releases and staged demos – rather than real world testing of the product.

It’s Alive! This List is Growing Like a Weed

If you are reading this before December 24th, 2011 we are still searching for the best toys.   This is a living, growing Holiday Toy Guide for 2011.  Below you will see some of the top toys we have currently reviewed, but please check back often as we will continue to update our list as we review new toys.  You can also see all of the toy reviews we have done by visiting our Toy section.

The Toy For Kids Who Can’t Decide Which They Like More, Flying or Shooting

Duck Hunter Launch and Load

Duck Hunter Launch and Load

Duck Hunter Launch and Load is one of those toys that is hard to classify. Yes, it has a toy duck that you charge and let fly…so it is flying toy? It also has an Infrared shotgun, that you use to shot down said duck…so it is a shooting toy? Who cares, because it is a fun toy! It takes three direct hits and then you get to watch the poor duck come sailing down to the ground…defeated.

Price: $29.95. Good for kids ages 10 and up.

Terrific Toy For Future Rescue Pilots

Air Hogs Fly Crane Helicopter

Air Hogs Fly Crane Helicopter

Just a few years ago, kids were impressed with any helicopter that you could actually get in the air and fly around the room for a few seconds. Today, R/C Helicopters have gotten so advanced that flying is just one of the things you can do with them. The Air Hogs Fly Crane Helicopter looks like your standard indoor helicopter, until you notice the hook on the bottom. Yes, this helicopter has a retractable grappling hook that you control with the remote control. Try to scoop up baskets and practice you skills for when you become a rescue pilot!
