There are only 3 guarantees in life – death, taxes and a never ending supply of new iPhone/iPod accessories. So, the idea of reviewing yet another iPod/iPhone docking station did not thrill us. Yet, one look at the new iHog Portable Docking Station and we knew this was one pretty pig we could party with!
iHog Proves Pigs Can Be Cute
The iHog is a docking station for ipods and iphones. I know, that is not a very exciting statement. However, once you see and touch the iHog you start to understand this is not your standard iPod dock. Let’s take a quick look at our video review of the iHog docking station…
Who Knew Touching A Pig Could Be So Cool
As the video shows, the iHog just looks cool. It is clearly a conversation piece with its green glowing mouth and big speaker eyes. The cool thing is the beauty with the iHog is more than skin deep. The iHog has touch controls, so touch one ear the volume goes up, touch the other and bring the volume down. The fact that the iHog has no buttons sticking out gives it a very cool, dare we say, Apple like feel.
This Hog Has Some Serious Hardware
Don’t let the good looks of the iHog fool you, this is one smart and technologically packed pig. Here are the specs –
- iPod Docking Station compatible with all dock connector iPods and iPhones.
- 2.1 Stereo Speaker System.
- Humanized Touch Volume Control and iPod music navigation.
- Lithium rechargeable battery for up to 10 hours of battery life.
- Remote control.
- Adjustable Bass and Treble.
- 4 Speakers positioned for maximum sound separation and distribution with tweeters and midrange.
- 20W Subwoofer.
- Total output of 28+ Watts.
- Shape designed to deliver 360 degrees of sound.
- Airflow optimized design for consistent sound performance.
- Bass Reflex Technology.
- 3.5mm AUX input jack to connect to TV, gaming consoles, or other music sources.
In our testing, we really loved the fact that the iHog can run off of its built in battery. For families this is a great feature. Doing a barbecue? Take the iHog outside for some music. Kids wants to dance while you want to watch football? Have them take the iHog into their room and dance away. It sounds trival, but there is something about not having to find a power outlet which makes the iHog much more useful than AC powered docking stations.
Conclusion: iHog Portable Docking Station
The iHog is the type of technology that we love – looks great, sounds great and super easy to operate. The flush touch controls are a nice… touch (sorry we couldn’t resist the pun). The battery is a great and useful addition. Most important of all, the iHog sounds great! The subwoofer gives it a great bass and the setup of the speakers provides great 360 degree sound.
There is really only one negative to the iHog – the price. At about $120 on Amazon, the iHog is a bit of a costly pig. While $120 is more than many of the inexpensive ipod docks, the iHog does provide much better sound, power and looks. If you want a portable iPod/iPhone docking station that provides great sound both indoors and out, the iHog is a great option.
