As our regular readers know, we like shooting things. One of the rituals of summer is heading outside with the kids and blasting things with a Nerf Super Soaker, the Max Force Shadow Hawk or maybe a Xploderz gun. Still, sometimes we get nostalgic and want to go old-school, back to the bow and arrow days – this is when we pull out the Air Hunterz Z-Curve Bow by Zing Toys.
Z-Curve Bow – For When Your Target Is Over 100 Feet Away
If you want to pick off your kids target at 80-100 feet away, you have a few options. You can go with the Xploderz gel ball blasters or the Max Force Shadow Hawk spitball blaster. However, if your target moves beyond the 100 foot marker, the blasters will not be able to reach the target.
Enter, the Z-Curve Bow with its claimed 125 foot range. We wanted to see how well the Z-Curve Air Hunterz Bow would perform in the real world, so we took it out and gave it a test drive…
Watch Our Hands-On Testing of the Z-Curve Bow -
Robin Hood I’m Not, But the Z-Curve Bow Is Still Fun
I am not going to lie and claim I could shoot an apple off your head with the Z-Curve Bow. I could probably shoot your head off the apple, but that would probably not impress you. The Z-Curve takes some practice to get the aim down and younger kids will have some problems pulling the foam arrow all the way back, but it is a blast to shoot and watch the arrows fly. If you get some arch in your shot, you can shoot the arrows over 125 feet.
Pick Your Arrow – Bounce Back or Suction
The Air Hunterz Z-Curve Bow comes with three arrows – two bounce back arrows and one suction arrow. The bounce back arrows were our favorite – they make a nice loud sound when they hit the target and give a nice bounce (as shown in the video). We had some problems with the suction arrow sticking, but it might have been the extremely high humidity we had during the testing.
Finally, a Toy That Does Not Discriminate Against Lefties
The world is basically made for right handed people. That is just a sad fact of life. The good news is that the fine folks at Zing Toys must have a few lefties in their ranks and decided to make the Z-Curve Bow lefty friendly. As we show in the video, just flip the bow over and it works perfectly for left handed people.
Conclusion: Air Hunterz Z-Curve Bow
The Z-Curve Bow allows you to fire foam arrows both fast and far. There is something very satisfying about pulling back on an arrow and then watching it soar over 100 feet away. If you need a high level of accuracy the Z-Curve Bow is not your best shooting option (at least in my hands) – but if your kids are looking for an outdoor toy that is fun to play with, the Air Hunterz Z-Curve Bow is a great choice.
The Air Hunterz Z-Curve Bow and foam arrows sells for about $25, best for ages 8 and up.
