Boccini Review aka Honey I Shrunk The Bocce Balls!

In walking the aisles of Toy Fair 2011 we saw some very interesting high tech toys, such as the Wappy Dog.   While techie toys have their place, sometimes we yearn for simple, battery free games that are just fun to play.  Skippity and Snack Attack! are two great battery free games we reviewed, but today we look at a game that gets you moving a little more – Boccini.

What Is Boccini – A Type of Pasta?

Boccini does sound like an excellent pasta, but it is actually a mini version of the Bocce Ball game.  Boccini is made by a company called, wait for it… Boccini, LLC.   A Boccini set is drop dead simple – 9 colored balls (about the size of ping pong balls) in a bag.  That is it!

Let’s take a look at how Boccini is played in our video review of Boccini:

Boccini is So Simple and So Addictive

As the video shows, Boccini is an incredibly simple game.  There are some variations and different ways to score a game, but the idea is as simple as trying to roll a ball close to another ball.   It almost feels silly to review a game as simple as rolling a ball toward other balls – but it really is fun and can get very competitive.

If you need to add a little spice to the regular Boccini game, the set comes with a instructions for number of game variations.  Playing on the ground too easy for you?  How about Boccini on the stairs?    More of a golf fan than a Bocci fan?  Try Boccini Golf.  Or do what my kids love to do, make up your own game with your own rules.

Play Boccini Inside, Outside and On The Road

Boccini balls are made of a non marking rubber, so you can play inside or outside.  We had a great time playing indoors with a couple of obstacles to increase the challenge.  The Boccini set comes in a small pouch that can be clipped on a backpack.  Boccini is a great travel game for the whole family.  The game is small enough to take with you to the park, beach or on vacation.  I could see my kids having a ball playing Boccini in a hotel room or down the hallways of a hotel!

Conclusion:  Boccini – Simple, Portable Fun

Some will look at Boccini and say, “I could take 9 balls and make this game myself“.  This may be true, but why bother when a Boccini set comes with colored balls, a carry bag and game instructions for only $17 delivered?  Boccini is simple, portable and fun for people of all ages.   If you are a parent who is looking for a simple game that the whole family can play and enjoy, indoors and outdoors, Boccini is a great choice.
