Who didn’t love playing games like Connect Four as a kid? It was sort of the next level up from Tic-Tac-Toe and it was fun…until it wasn’t. Much like Tic-Tac-Toe, the pattern became very repetitive with game after game ending in a tie. After all, there are only so many ways you can get four in a row when playing on a two dimensional grid.
What if there was no grid? What if four in a row exploded into the third dimension? This is exactly the idea behind Stratos Spheres by Thinkfun.

Amazing What One More Dimension Can Do For a Game
As the video shows, removing the grid from Connect Four greatly expands the game play and strategy. By turning four in a row into a three dimensional game, it becomes much more fun and challenging. Need proof of that? Watch the above video again at the 3:30 mark.
I was yellow and thought I had lost, but I had actually won. I totally missed it (until a commenter on YouTube told me) but I had 4 in a row on the diagonal. This is what makes the game so fun, there are so many more ways to go for the win, it makes it much harder to play defense and see what to block.
