Boy was I just itching to hate this DVD. Playful Planet contacted Dad Does saying that they wanted us to review their Yoga DVD – Storyland Yoga – and give a Dad’s point of view. In the DVD kids learn yoga by imitating animals and going on two fun-filled adventures to help the planet. All of this taught by Ahmed Fahmy, a certified children’s yoga instructor.
Why Exactly Did I Want to HATE the Storyland Yoga DVD?
Simple – because everyone else loved it! Just take a look at this –
- 17 Reviews on Amazon, 16 are Five Stars and 1 is Four Stars

We love being different, so how utterly boring it would be to love this video just like everyone else. Clearly everyone else was on the take and we were set to uncover this video for the fraud it must be.
First step was to play it backward and check for a message from Satan…nope, no message from Satan. Maybe the DVD can shoot out of the disc player and take off your arm while doing Yoga? No, extensive testing with some kids I didn’t care for proved that theory wrong. It was time to admit defeat…
Tragically, Dad Does Loves the Storyland DVD As Well
Call us lemmings, but we must admit the Storyland DVD is a terrific idea excellently executed. The DVD really presents a whole new and fun way for kids to learn Yoga. There are two stories on the DVD – Condor Trek and Save The Whale. The instructor, Ahmed Fahmy, does a fantastic job of telling a very ecco friendly story, while incorporating Yoga into the story.
One of the great things about the Storyland Yoga DVD is that it does not “teach” Yoga. There is no – “Get into the Cat position now” the poses are incorporated into the story. As Fahmy crafts his story, the Yoga poses are just part of the story – like seeing a lion or riding a bike to help the Condors.

Kids Love It And They Probably Don’t Even Realize it is Yoga
The DVD is very easy for any kids to get into. If the kids can’t do a pose – they just do something close. I found that as my kids watched it more, they got better at the actually poses, but really this is just about having fun and getting your body moving. I also found that the DVD really calmed the kids downs – very relaxing.
Some Minor Problems With the Storyland Yoga DVD
The age range on the DVD is 3-8 and this probably a little to generous on the older side. The stories are great for pre-K and K, but 8 years old are not as into the stories. Probably the best audience for the DVD is 3-6 year olds. In addition, it would be nice if there were more than two stories. The two stories together are about 40 minutes long, which is good, but would have been great to have one more story and more like 60 minutes of Yoga.
Conclusion on the Storyland Yoga DVD:
The flaws with the Storyland Yoga DVD are incredibly minor while the positives are plenty. The Storyland Yoga DVD is a healthy and fun way for the family to spend some time together. As a Dad, I like doing Yoga with the kids without feeling like I am in an intense yoga class.
At $15, the Storyland Yoga DVD makes a great gift for anyone with kids between the ages of 3-6 years old. It seems like every parent starts the New Year with a resolution to be more healthy and spend more time with the family – get the Storyland Yoga DVD and kill two birds with one stone. Oh wait, that cliche probably doesn’t work for an eco and animal friendly DVD. How about – save two Condors with one pose.
