Review: Tiggly Shapes, Maybe Toddlers and iPads Do Mix

Tiggly Shapes

Tiggly Shapes

Here at Dad Does we love toys, toddlers and technology.  The thing is, when we have tried to mix all three together at the same time…let’s just say we have had less than stellar results.  Is it really sound parenting to hand your toddler your brand new iPad Air so they can try to beat your top score in Angry Birds while you try to finish a work call?

Now along comes Tiggly Shapes, an interactive toy for toddlers that works with your iPad.  Tiggly Shapes, with the included Tiggly Apps claims to help your toddlers learn…while having fun.  Does Tiggly Shapes provide the right blend of technology, education and most importantly fun for your toddlers? Please watch our video review of Tiggly Shapes to find out -

Tiggly Shapes Keeps The Tech To A Minimum, Which Is Great

Want to see a toddler throw a fit?  Give him a really cool toy…with dead batteries.  Or how about giving her a fun tech toy that first requires bluetooth pairing and a degree in computer programming.  I am now going to state something that is painstakingly obvious to all the Moms and Dads…toddlers do not count patience as one of their strong suites.

Thankfully the Tiggly Shapes are super simple and require no batteries, pairing or setup. Load up the Tiggly Apps (3 apps – Tiggly Draw, Tiggly Stamps and Tiggly Safari come free with the Tiggly Shapes) and you are ready to go.  Toddlers place the shapes on the screen and cool things happen.

Don’t Tell The Kids, But They Are Learning With Tiggly Shapes

When a toddler plays with Tiggly Shapes and the Tiggly Apps, all they know is that they are having fun.  As a parent, if you do a secret screen swipe and go to the parent section of the app, you see that a great deal of thought went into designing the apps.  All the Tiggly Apps were designed by education experts and have been tested by parents.

Don’t tell the toddlers, but here are some of the things they will learn with Tiggly Shapes –

  • Fundamental Geometry Concepts
  • Language Skills
  • Spatial Thinking
  • Motor Skills
  • Creativity
  • How To Trick Their Parents Into Giving Them More Screen Time

Okay, I made that last one up – but once you see how much your toddler is learning with Tiggly Shapes you will forget about that screen time rule you have in place.

Give Your Old iPad New Life With Tiggly Shapes

As you can tell, we were very impressed with Tiggly Shapes and the Tiggly Apps.  Tiggly mixes the right amount of technology, education, simplicity and most importantly  – fun!  You can of course use Tiggly Shapes with the newest iPads and iPad Mini, but I am still not a huge fan of handing a toddler a $600 tablet.  On the other hand, if you have an old iPad lying in a desk drawer, pick up Tiggly Shapes for $29 and make your toddler very happy (and a little smarter too)!
