Kids today will grow up to face a number of challenges. Ice caps melting, temperatures rising and crazy escalating debt…just to name a few. All of that may be true, but don’t start feeling all sorry for the next generation, they have some insanely cool toys that we never got as kids!
Last year we looked at Zoomer Pup – a robotic puppy that was plenty cool. In fact, Zoomer Pup took home the Innovative Toy Of The Year Award in 2014. How does Spin Master follow-up on such an innovative robotic pet? By getting prehistoric! Today we review the brand new Zoomer Dino (named Boomer), your interactive pet dinosaur.

Zoomer Dino, A Lot of Tech For a Prehistoric Creature
There is no shortage of technology built into this toy. Zoomer Dino is self balancing, which adds an almost magical element to the toy. Boomer has sensors in his head and tail, a remote control, the ability to follow gestures, a wide assortments of emotions and sounds and freaky color changing LED eyes. Incredibly, it is not all that technology that makes Zoomer Dino fun to play with, it is the way the technology disappears that makes Zoomer Dino such an enjoyable toy.
When playing with Zoomer Dino you forget about all the technology and just enjoy the personality of Boomer. The sounds, the way his head moves, the funny way he chomps his mouth when laughing or raises his tail to pass gas…this is what makes Zoomer Dino great. As we show in the video, there are numerous ways to play and interact with Zoomer Dino, but no matter what you are doing, Boomer’s playful personality always shines through.
Just Like A Real Pet, Zoomer Dino Needs To Be Trained
While we love the addition of a remote control to Zoomer Dino, you don’t want to really think of Zoomer Dino as a remote control toy. Rather, Boomer is a pet that needs to be trained and doesn’t always listen. The hand gestures take some practice and some days are better than others for Boomer. Boomer is not about precision control of a robot, he is all about having fun, being playful and interacting with you and the environment.
Here are some of the key features of Zoomer Dino -
- Real dinosaur movements, sounds and incredible dino-sense abilities
- Boomer can detect when you’re nearby and interacting with him
- Dino can get angry, spin around, chomp and roar
- Using True Balance Technology, Boomer perfectly balances on 2 wheels as he roams freely, exploring your home
- Use hands or included controller to tame his Dino nature and build your friendship
- Mood indicating LED eyes
- He might even let out dino-sized burps and farts
- Requires 3 AAA batteries (not included)
Kids, You Better Hide Boomer From Your Parents
Boomer is rated for kids ages 5 and up…with the key phrase there “and up“. I can see plenty of Dads (and Moms too of course) playing with Zoomer Dino and trying to tame his wild ways. After all, we are parents…well versed in training wild beasts
Kids, quick piece of advice, when your Dad says “Let me see Boomer for just a second, I want to show you something…” he really means “Give Me Boomer, Must Have Boomer….” I recommend you fake having to go to the bathroom and run off with your bathroom pal Boomer.
Oh and kids, in 20 years from now when you are complaining about having to deal with the mess of melting ice caps and a bankrupt government, just remember, you got a childhood of playing with cool toys like Zoomer Dino!
